If you are listening to this, you are listening to Rhod Gilbert's Best Bits, some of the best bits of my Saturday morning radio show, live on BBC Radio Wales. This week, I'm in the studio in Swansea with Mr. Chris Corcoran.

I had a very very very very very problematic night's sleep again. I don't really wanna get into it ... / You're not a good sleeper, are you? / I'm not a good sleeper. I'm not a good sleeper when the bed I'm staying on is possibly the worst in western Europe ... / Wow. / ... uh, in the accomodation facilities that I've chosen. I'm not gonna name the names __ 'cause __ talk__ __ __ __ them first. But the bed I __ on is a disgrace. / Wow. ... Are you paying for this bed? / It is, uh ... it is springs with a sheet cast over them. / No. / Yes, yes, I'm paying for it. / You're paying for it? / __ paying good money as well. It's sort of ... uh ... anyway, that __ been taking up with the, uh ... with the / accomodation, uh, ... / Well, rightly so. / place ... uh, later today, 'cause / taken my suitcase and left __ thought __ I can't go back. I can't. I can't. / Are you sure it was the bed that you were lying on? / I tried the bathroom floor, I tried the sofa, I tried the floor ... / Yeah? / And ... I kept coming back to the bed as the best of those pretty bad options ... / Wow. / ... but only just ahead of the bathroom floor, if I'm honest. / バスルームの床よりほんの少しマシというくらいのシロモノだった。 / Wow. / Yes. For __ luxury accomodation, that's not what you want. / No, it's not what you expect. / Um ... I don't know if it was __ luxury accomodation __ ... uh, anyway, I'm not gonna get into it / which / when I get back, which / I / going back after this. Now, look. This isn't what the show is about. I've got ... I've got an email here from a listener. / Do you wanna set it up? / Well, it's about sleep. I'll tell you / read you / first line / yeah / this is gonna turn into a feature / "Dear Rhod ..." This is from D__ in Cardiff. "... last night, my husband ... husband woke me up 'sleep-clapping'." / Huh. / Yeah. __ __ a nice little story. So, there we are. / That's a good feature. Let's see where it's going. / have you ever been woken up to the person next to you doing a gentle round of applause in their sleep? / No, I ... I can't say I have. / It's nice, innit? It's a nice little idea. I like it. Um ... so, I thought of turning it into a little feature. What is the strangest thing you've ... you've been woken up to ... / Yeah, / ... your partner doing?

Do you know what? I __ on holiday this weekend. I'd gone __ somewhere __ the bed is medieval. Medieval. / Like an actual t__ bed? / An acual medieval torture bed. / Like an iron maiden? / ... How ... if you've got a ... see, again, if you run accomodation, how would you ... I h__ this last year __ on tour when I was / if you run accomodation, / how / you can see ... if you ... if you make that bed, you'd have to go ... __ would be painful to make __ __ kind of bed that / tuck / the sheet around you / actually, probably injure yourself / lose your finger? / You could lose your finger. You probably would have ... / you could easily / __ __ bruise / after making up that bed / Yeah. / it's that kind of bed that attaks you / at / from different areas. You know, you press one place and you get poked at the back by different place. You know, you get ... it attacks you, l__s / It's like an a__ bed? / Yeah. / bed / ninja / Yeah? / So, you move ... you move one way / like a f__ ninja, spring goes __ the other side. / こっちを押すと、あっちの方から飛び出してオレを攻撃するんだ。まるで忍者だ。 / Yeah. / How __ you get away with that? How do you do that? / I know the answer to this. / What is it? ... Yeah, I do, as well / your matress / place you are staying / how / get away with it / you said / What? / how / happen in the first place / how did it happen in the first place? / Hotels skimp on beds 'cause __ the most expensive / get / so, they do everything else / give you a bit of chocolate on your pillow / no / I haven't got that / no, I haven't got that. / All right __ __ a little coffee-maker thing / I've got a ... I've got a mini kettle and some s__s. / Have you got shortbread biscuits? / No. / Have you got, uh, __ __s? / No. / biscuits at all? / No. / Huh. OK. Well, ... clearly, this place skimps on other stuff. / Yeah. / But the point is, __ all the little things / but / expensive bed / thing / they skimp on. They ... they don't mind. / It doesn't have to be an expensive bed / thing / comfort you want / it has to be one that doesn't make you cry. / Yeah. / That's all I ... I looked at it and I thought "I'm going to cry." I arrived at midnight and I thought "I'm going to cry", looking at that bed / you sure / well, at 5 A.M., I was thinking ... at 5 A.M., I was still awake and in pain, being jabbed by this jabby ninja bed, and I thought, "Shall I drive to Swansea now __ __ the radio show and try to sleep in the car outside the BBC offices for a couple of hours? / It was that bad? / It was that bad. / Wow. / It was __ medival, fi__ ninja bed. And I've gotta go back there today __ I've already taken __ my stuff / the room / I can't even look at it. I can't even look at it. Can't even look at it. / Can it be that you are just super-sensitive? You know the story / I'm not __ __ Princess and the Pea. No. ... No. / Are you sure? / No / like, if you put ... / I'm not being sensitive. This / not / princess / put on a matress on __ to test whether she is really a princess / Yeah / loads of matresses on top of the pea, and if the girl sleeps on it and she still feels the pea through the fifteen matresses, __ __ __ she must be a princess ... well, this isn't like that. / Are you sure? / No. It's more like __ princess and the fidgety ninja with a hacksaw. That's what this is like. Honestly you would just / Are you sure it's not / your soft, kind of, luxurious way __ __ that's __ out __ here / good bed / don't forget / I / all over the world all the time, and I'm used to every single level of bed there is, from ... / Right. / ... from the cheapest of the cheap ... / Yeah, / ... to the most expensive of the most expensive / the most expensive / you've got a context / I've got a context with this. This one is a disgraceful m__ t__ bed. / All right, princess. わかりました、お姫様。

Last night, my husband woke me up 'sleep-clapping'" She's put that in inverted commas. "He wasn't sitting up ... nothing like that ... just lying there, asleep, giving a gentle round of applause." / Huh. That's a lovely example of sleep-walking. / Isn't that a lovely way to wake up? / Yeah. / To wake up, you __ __ huhhh, what's going on __ look across / there's your husband / lying down, gving __ a gentle round of applause. / Right. / Polite even in his sleep. What have you been woken up by? ... D__ from C__ was in bed with his partner. And, at about 2 A.M., 2 in the morning, he asked her ... What? ... I presumed D__ from C__ was asleep when this happened.
